About GetTheAmount
GetTheAmount started from a specific, recurring frustration: online project calculators that round loosely, skip waste percentages entirely, and never explain the method behind the number they hand you. A calculator that says “buy 2 gallons” without telling you it assumed a flat coverage rate, ignored your ceiling height, or used a straight-lay waste percentage on a herringbone floor isn't actually saving you the trip back to the store — it's just moving the guesswork one step later.
Every calculator on this site is built from real coverage rates, pattern-repeat math, and bag/box/roll round-ups specific to that exact material and layout — see our methodology for how those figures are sourced and where they genuinely vary by product. Each calculator page is paired with the project framing (the real formula, common mistakes specific to that material, and a shopping summary in purchasable units) needed to actually use the number correctly, not just a bare figure with no context around it.
Who's behind it
GetTheAmount is built and maintained by Praveen, based in Berlin, Germany. It's a small, independently run project — no editorial team pumping out generic content, just calculators and guides built one material at a time, with the specific facts (real coverage rates, real waste percentages, real yield figures) checked against manufacturer specs and published industry-standard tables rather than copied from wherever the last calculator got them.
What's actually on the site
30 calculators covering interior surfaces (paint, tile, flooring, drywall, insulation), concrete and masonry, outdoor and landscaping materials, structural sizing (stairs, roofing, siding), and a handful of general project-planning tools. Ten project hubs sequence several calculators into a real build order for multi-step projects, twenty guides go deeper on the measuring methods and reference tables behind the numbers, and the blog covers estimating explainers and seasonal checklists — see the calculators directory to browse everything by category.
What we get wrong, and how we fix it
Coverage rates, waste percentages, and yield figures aren't static — products change, manufacturers update formulations, and sometimes a figure we've published turns out to be off for a specific product line. If you find a calculator that looks wrong for your specific material, let us know — corrections get made to the source figure, not just the one page that happened to get flagged.

GetTheAmount is one of a small family of independently run tool and reference sites — see the footer for the others, each built with the same real-data-first approach rather than a generic content template.
What we don't do
No sponsored placements pretending to be neutral recommendations, no auto-generated content padded to hit a word count, and no calculator published before we could source a real coverage or waste figure for the material it covers. If we can't find a defensible number, we leave the calculator unbuilt rather than publish one built on a guess.
