How this calculation works
Kits needed = floor area / coverage per kit at your target thickness, where manufacturers publish coverage at a standard mil thickness (commonly 6-10 mils per coat for a garage-floor epoxy system) — a thicker application uses proportionally more material per square foot. A porous, never-sealed concrete slab can absorb 10-20% more material on the first coat than the label's stated coverage assumes, since some epoxy soaks into the concrete itself rather than staying on the surface as a film.
Cure time is highly temperature- and humidity-dependent, not a fixed number of hours regardless of conditions — cooler temperatures slow the chemical cure significantly, and recoating before the prior coat has cured enough can cause the layers to lift or wrinkle, which is a real, non-cosmetic failure, not just a cosmetic delay.
