How to Calculate Siding Squares

Siding squares (100 sq ft units, same unit as roofing) start from net wall area — gross wall area minus window and door openings — but effective coverage per square differs meaningfully between siding materials, since each has its own panel size, overlap, and installed reveal.
Calculating net wall area
Measure each wall's gross area (length x height), sum across all exterior walls, then subtract the area of every window and door opening individually rather than using a flat estimate — exterior walls often have more and larger openings than interior walls, so a rough deduction estimate is less reliable here than it might be for an interior paint job.
Why vinyl and fiber-cement coverage differ per square
